Worksheets

Theme: Where we live
Aims: To encourage participants to think about community in terms of their neighbourhoods.
Objective: Capturing what is good about their communities and thinking about what they don't like and would like to see changed or made better.

The Community Washing Line

activity for 10 to 13 year olds

Key learning:

  • Celebrating community and our place within it
  • Ideas about community and what we want from it
  • Challenging existing ideas about community needs/life
  • Encouraging community spirit
  • Voicing concerns about local community
  • Thinking about solutions and ways to make improvements
  • Making positive community change

Estimated timing:

2 x 150 min sessions

Materials:

  • 2 x Newsprint strips /sheets of card (for ABC activity 1)
  • Pack of A2 Sugar paper in assorted colours
  • Washing line (and way to attach it across room)
  • Collection of Pegs
  • Washable Markers
  • Handouts 1,2

Please print one copy of the instructions and a copy of each handout for every member of the group you will be working with - remember to include a copy for your own reference.

Using the worksheets

There are different ways to use these worksheets. Ideally you will get a chance to work through each of the three worksheets.

Each worksheet is split into two parts to make them more flexible. They have also been devised for two different age groups.

Once you have decided which worksheets you wish to use you can click on the link and download the PDFs.

All the worksheets are produced as PDFs. Portable Document Format files are a convenient way to distribute documents.
